OYS delivers to Royal Navy

Ocean Yacht Systems has designed and delivered custom composite transfer stays which are to be fitted to all new Type 45 destroyers.

Working with Atlantic Spars and Rigging, the technical team has spent three years developing the end product which is currently in service on HMS Dauntless, HMS Daring, HMS Diamond, and most recently HMS Dragon.

The stays are made of Kevlar and support the mast for ship to ship transfers, they need to operate in the World's harshest conditions, yet be lightweight and an easy to stow high strength solution. OYS are proud to have been able to supply to the Royal Navy and look forward to supplying the two remaining Type 45 destroyers HMS Defender and HMS Duncan.

HMS Dragon, arrived in her new home port of Portsmouth on 31st August. She is one of a planned six of her type, which will be equipped with Sea Vipers anti-air missiles.  She will also be able to carry up to 60 troops, has a flight deck to accommodate a Chinook helicopter and in an emergency she is capable of carrying up to 700 civilians.

Antares III selects OYS thrusters

Antares IIIAntares III has set sail from Yachting Developments base in Auckland. Hand crafted in Eglass/Carbon & Kevlar this 100ft Dixon Yacht Design performance cruising sloop is 30% lighter than similar vessels constructed from aluminium.

Ocean Yacht Systems supplied a superlight vertical retracting 35hp bow thruster and a swing retracting 48hp stern thruster, designed to be lightweight yet reliable to compliment the project’s performance criteria. Custom made, both thrusters fully retract leaving a completely faired hull and minimal drag.

Continuing its successful relationship with Yachting Developments, OYS has also been awarded the order Antares III Swing Retracting Stern Thrusterto supply thrusters and composite rigging for the new 100ft composite catamaran underway at Yachting Developments. We look forward to her successful launch during 2012 and continuing our partnership with one of world’s finest yacht builders.

Ocean Yacht Systems produce more thrust

OYS have zefira projectsecured a second contract to supply the thrusters on the next Dubois 50m to be built at Fitzroy Yachts, New Zealand.

OYS have previously supplied bow and stern thrusters to the award winning 50m Superyacht Zefira. After successful commissioning and trials on board Zefira in Auckland, the second Dubois 50m yacht (Project G50) planned for build at the Yard was also awarded to OYS.

OYS have supplied 2 x 99kW (133hp) custom hydraulic swing thrusters. The unique thrusters are designed to be highly efficient as well as being mechanically locked in place when raised. When retracted there is little evidence of the thruster at all, leaving behind a completely faired hull providing minimal drag and optimising the sailing experience of these performance orientated superyachts.

“We find their (OYS’s) attitude and approach to business to be outstanding amongst our many suppliers,” comments Rodney Martin, MD for Fitzroy Yachts, “We want to keep OYS as the thruster of choice for our yachts and our plan is to recommend future clients to accept OYS as our preferred equipment.”

The 50m Dubois ‘Project G50’ is currently well underway at Fitzroy Yachts with launch planned in 2012.
