RIBELLE takes to the water

oys-carbon-vang-ribelle

The latest yacht from Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, RIBELLE, has just completed her first superyacht regatta and finished a very credible second place having been delivered to her owner in Monaco in spring 2017.

The Boat International Loro Piana Regatta in Porto Cervo was the first time RIBELLE, the 32.5m Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, has been seen on the superyacht racing circuit and by many since her completion.

RIBELLE is equipped with OYS custom hydraulics and thrusters on board. Her hydraulic sail control cylinders designed specifically for this application, whilst the carbon / titanium bow and stern thrusters are lightweight helping to keep her at optimum racing weight without compromise. Perhaps the most talked about feature from OYS on board is the custom vang which is colour matched to her deck windows.

Ian Crowden, Technical Director at Ocean Yacht Systems was on board for the first regatta and commented, “Winning the first race of the regatta and finishing second in the fleet was a wonderful achievement for her first regatta. We look forward to seeing how she performs in Palma at the Supyeracht Cup in June.”

This is the second new build OYS have been specified as the OEM for the owner, having previously supplied to the award winning 50m Dubois Zefira.

Visit to TS Royalist Poole Quay

OYS-thursters-TS-RoyalistOYS engineers Adam Nice and Danny Whitelock visited TS Royalist at Poole Marina during their brief stopover on route to Jersey.

TS Royalist is equipped with an H0400T hydraulic fixed tunnel bow thruster with 50 Hp output from OYS. During a winter period in the yard, TS Royalist was fitted with new propellers and a hydraulic motor and the vessels hydraulic system required some fine tuning by the OYS engineers to obtain optimum performance. After checking and balancing the system pressure and flow, operation and function tests were successfully carried out with the ship’s engineer before the vessel departed for its next destination.

Bella Ragazza Rig Stepped

Bella-Ragazza-rig-stepSome great pictures from Rig Pro NZ's Alexis Reeves. It shows the 43m Bella Ragazza having her mast re-stepped after a major refit of her OYS standing rigging & hydraulic cylinders.

Rig Pro NZ is the service division of the Southern Spars mast making group, and works closely with OYS looking after the many joint projects the two companies have rigged over decades of working together.

The southern hemisphere service season is setting up to be a busy one with OYS and Rig Pro partnering on several important refit jobs, let’s just hope the weather is as good for every stepping!

OYS Rigging, Conrad Colman and the Vendee Globe

Conrad-Colman-Rounds-Cape-Horn-OYS-Turnbuckles-RiggingNew Zealander Conrad Colman is set to become the first Kiwi sailor to take part and complete the Vendee Globe, and he is doing it will a little help with rigging fittings from Ocean Yacht Systems.

Just before the start of the Vendee Globe, Conrad Colman approached OYS to replace his OYS turnbuckles on his standing rigging. OYS, custom made the fittings in a very short space of time given the rapidly approaching start of the Vendee Globe on 6th November 2016.

Conrad is now round Cape Horn and is heading North to the ultimate goal, the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne.

Whilst Conrad is battling the elements, we are busy back in the factory with 11 superyacht rigging projects in for refit in January.

More on our rigging can be found on our website here.
