OYS service department being kept busy

The rigging department at Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS) have been kept busy for 2014, particularly with 4 and 8 year services. OYS run a comprehensive service programme on all rigs they manufacture to prolong the life of a rig and also protect the personal safety of crew and guest’s and others on board.

Rod Rigging“Standing rigging is made up of a number of critical highly tensioned moving parts, some of which are rarely inspected due to their position on the rig.” Comments Malcolm Lee, project manager at OYS. “By having a service programme in place, OYS make sure these parts are assessed and serviced accordingly, reducing any downtime as much as possible.”

Notable projects in 2014 have been:
Anakena: 40M Royal Huisman ketch – 16 Year Service
Burrasca: 56M Perini Navi – 8YR Service
Asahi: 56M Perini Navi – 8 Year Service
Psyrax: 31M Nordia – 8 Year Service
Nazenin V: 52M Ron Holland / RMK – 4 Year Service

During the same period the OYS rigging department undertook two full rigging replacement projects the first for the 40M Perini Navi ketch Ellen V and the 40M Royal Huisman ketch Surama. All rigs have been project managed by OYS with any work carried out at the OYS factory in Christchurch, UK.

OYS, has a number of service agents, and when required, OYS ship rod and custom fittings to their location. This service enables the agents to carry out heading work on the rig in location, saving time and money. This work is carried out using OYS presses which are located in agent’s facilities around the world.

The rigging department continues to supply leading mast manufacturers and boat builders around the world with bespoke fittings as well as Kevlar rigging all of which is built in Christchurch. The OYS rigging department not only services leading superyachts, in 2014, the team have also carried out service work on yachts down to 10M.

Looking forward to 2015 the rigging service department has a full winter ahead with more 4 and 8 year service projects as well as a brand new 43M build to be delivered at the end of February.

Currently in the factory:
Surama: Royal Huisman 40M – Full replacement re-fit
Mystere: Tripp 43M – 8 Year Service

Due into the factory:
Velacarina: Hoek 26M – 4 Year Service
Panthalassa: 56M Perini Navi – 4 Year Service

Malcolm Lee will be at METS 2014 on Wednesday 19th November. If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss a future service project please email him on Malcolm @ oceanyachtsystems.co.uk
